Nuclear powered batteries are used in space probes operating at far end of solar system and beyond.

Explanation:

They call it Radio isotope thermo electric generator. I think plutonium is used in such systems..The space craft new horizon visited Pluto last year have such a power pack..The voyager 1 & 2 space probes also have such power packs.
