Now, let us suppose that a molecule collides with the wall of the container and assuming the collision to be elastic, infer that it rebounds back with he same speed.

This, there is a transfer in momentum from the molecule to the wall. When there is momentum transfer, there must be a force. This force per unit area due to such a huge number of collisions per unit time is the pressure the gas exerts on the walls of the container.
