Do practice problems - a lot.

Explanation:

Unfortunately, the only way to effectively study organic chemistry is to answer a LOT of practice problems. Studying organic chemical reactions need a lot more than memorization of mechanism, and reagents, and catalysts to be utilized in each reaction.

I recommend you read McMurry's Organic Chemistry (6th ed) for the basics. :)
