Figure (1) shows a representation of the acceleration vector with its components in the vertical( $a_y$ ) and in the horizontal( $a_x$ ) directions.

All these vectors can be rearranged in a triangle as shown in figure (2).

Hence, with respect to the question,

$a=6.8"m/s "$ and $" " theta = 23°$

$=>sintheta=sin23°= a_y/6.8$

$=> a_y=6.8xxsin23°=2.7"m/s"$
