I am not quite sure whether yours is a philosophical or biological question...by the way...why is it under STARS?

Explanation:

Philosophically it is probably connected with the need of making the life of others a bit challenging (or miserable, depending upon the specific interpretation). What would be a nice warm summer night out without being bitten and "vampirized" by mosquitoes?...Boring!!!

Biologically we may think that basically all living things (us as well) are or will be food for some other living thing. Actually I think a lot of frogs or fishes love mosquitoes being the main course of their diet.

Considering the usefulness or need of existence of some (for us) hideous creature, consider that in Italy there is a say that goes more or less like this:
"The mother of the cockroach thinks her son is the most beautiful creature on Earth"!
