Speed measures how far something travels in a certain amount of time.

Explanation:

Speed is a scalar quantity- it doesn't have any direction. The vector counterpart to speed is velocity.
Speed has the SI units of #ms^-1# (Meters per second), but can be measured in any combination of distance units per time units:
Examples:
miles per hour
kilometers per minute
furlongs per week
etc.
Hopefully some of this will help!
