Ancient Greece was different because it was very mountainous (ancient India & China had mountains to, but not the way Greece did). Mainland Greece was the only one of your list to be a pennensula. Ancient Greece was also composed of myriads of islands. The soil of Ancient Greece in coupling with the mountains made agriculture very difficult. Therefore, ancient Greeks took to the seas.
