This is testing Le Chatelier's Principle.

The reaction:

#CO_2(g) + triangle⇌ CO(g) + (1/2)O_2(g) #
#triangleH = 284kJ#

is an endothermic reaction because the reaction absorbs heat. Because heat is absorbed and we can treat heat as a reactant, if you were to remove heat from the system, the reaction would shift to the left.

This is because Le Chatelier's Principle states that when there is equilibrium, any change to this equilibrium will result in a shift that counteracts this effect.
