Melting point and freezing point is at the same temperature, but not melting and boiling points.


The reason melting and freezing point is the same is that we are carrying out the two parts of a reversible reaction:

#"liquid rarr solid# or #solid rarr liquid#

It would be a bit like playing a video then watching it in reverse, but both happen at the same temperature.

Melting and boiling points mark the temperatures for two completely different processes. The change from liquid to gas involves completely different changes to the separation of molecules than the change of solid to liquid.
