Electrons do exist in atoms as part of the combination of a nucleus surrounded by the electrons in well defined orbits.


Nature tries to ensure there are normally a close to equal number of negative electrons to balance the number of positive protons in the atom, with few exceptions.

It is the electrons in the metal group of elements that allow current flow so we can transport electricity. Electron interaction with other atoms result in chemical reactions.
