“ZPG” is when the rate of births equals the rate of deaths.

Explanation:

Theoretically, each existing person ONLY ‘replaces’ themselves for a constant population level.

In practice there will always be an imbalance between localized “negative population” (declining numbers) and “positive population” (more than replacement values). Overall, achieving ZPG would at least stabilize the demands for resources placed on the ecosystem by human desires.

“Controlling” populations through any means has always been a very controversial and difficult topic. However, ‘nature’ IS reality, and other examples indicate that a lack of self-control will ultimately lead to catastrophic population reductions through starvation, disease and conflict.
