It is so because of ten percent rule applicable in Food chain.
As the energy is transferred from producer to consumer 90% of it will not be available to the consumer, why? The answer is pretty simple, the producer uses the available energy to perform the various biological process for its own survival and a large amount will be released as heat in the atmosphere.
Thus, 90% energy which was present with the producer is lost and cannot be renewed cycling of it is not possible.
