Photo synthesis is fundamental process that sustains most life forms as we generally know, on Earth today.

Explanation:

Photo synthesis is the process by which solar energy is converted into chemical energy on Earth and thus sustains most life forms flourishing today.

Green plants possess a pigment called chlorophyll to capture sunlight of specific wavelengths and use it to convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates.

As a corollary this process releases oxygen into the atmosphere which is used by all other organisms (that cannot photosynthesize) to break down ingested foods, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into energy for their own needs.

Photo synthesis is represented by the following equation:
carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen + water.

Some of earliest organisms on earth(cyanobacteria) were responsible for oxygenating the Earth. The excess oxygen was then used by aerobic organisms and triggered the huge biological diversity in life in water and on land.

This also led to evolution of life forms with more and more complex morphologies.
