The British anger towards the European Union

The British people have been notorious for their rejection of the EU after their joining it in 1973. Margaret Thatcher is known to have put pressure on French president François Mitterand with his grievance "I want my money back".

Euroscepticism grew so much in the ranks of the Cosnervative Party in the years 2010 that David Cameron had to promise to organize a referendum on remaining in the Union if he was reelected in 2016. The United Kingdom Party created in 1992 after the Maastricht treaty managed to gain a tremendous importance and won this referendum.
