What type of precipitation freezes in the upper atmosphere?
1 Answer
a form of precipitation known as snow.
Explanation:
rain, drizzle, snow grains, hail, snow, freezing drizzle, ice pellets, snow pellets and freezing rain are all forms of precipitation.
When the water vapor freezes in the upper atmosphere it falls to the ground in the form of snow flakes. These hexagonal crystals have greater air resistance and less density than rain drops. This causes the snow flakes to fall more gently to the earth than rain, ice pellets , hail or other forms of precipitation.
Interestingly sometimes it snows when the air temperature near the ground is above freezing temperature. This is because the water vapor freezes into crystals in the upper atmosphere where the temperature is colder. It is amazing to see the snow flakes melt just a few inches above the ground.
