Must we learn the names of common compounds and chemicals by rote?

Explanation:

Most of the time, the names of chemicals become familiar with usage..... And if you work in a lab for any length of time, you will soon pick up the common names. Liquid nitrogen is a very common item in the lab, and if you ask for #"the juice"# most lab workers would immediately know that you mean liquid nitrogen. Hopefully, someone has filled the Dewar recently. If not, it is a trip down to the liquid nitrogen store, and when you bring it back EVERYBODY will use it.
