Total war is basically kill everything.

Total war is what general William Tecumseh Sherman did: Kill and burn everything in his path. That meant crops, livestock, people, bridges, train tracks, barns, manors, etc. On a side note, nuclear weapons are probably total war as they destroy everything within radius
