Although annotating may seem tedious and tiresome, it does help to identify foreshadowing, character development, and other literary devices.

Explanation:

The devices you identity can help to better your understanding of characters' motives, which in turn can help you understand the plotline and identify thematic ideas. Annotating can also allow you to make connections throughout the book, which can help with comprehension in general.

It honestly depends on the person, though. Not everyone benefits from annotating, but it does help you recognize details you probably wouldn't have noticed if you weren't annotating.

Although annotating isn't my favourite pastime activity, it does help me when my teacher wants us to write an essay or explain literary devices.
