If the axis did not tilt, there would be much less livable area on Earth.

Explanation:

Without a tilt in the Earth's axis the same parts of the Earth would always be in direct sunlight and the same parts would never have direct sunlight, The part of the Earth with direct sunlight would be the area between the tropic of Cancer (through Florida) and the tropic of Capricorn (through Paraguay and South Africa). These areas would be so hot that they would be almost uninhabitable. Growing crops would be nearly impossible. The areas much above the tropics would be too cold to support much life or grow crops. Only the areas of the Earth near the tropics would be habitable.
