Some people think that being polite is a sign of weakness. The person being polite is showing submission or subservience to a person who is perceived to be superior or stronger.
Being rude because a person believes that they are superior to another person and don't need to show them respect takes dignity away from both persons. Robbing someone of their dignity by not being polite is hurtful.
Truly strong and superior people will show respect to all people because they respect. themselves. Being polite and showing respect is a sign of the dignity of the person showing respect.
Only truly strong people secure in the their own worth and dignity are able to be polite without being subservient.
