Among solids, metals are the conductors of electricity while non-metals generally are poor conductors and insulators.

However, there are some notorious exceptions, graphite being a non metal conducts quite well.

Also, there are certain semiconductor substances such as Si and Ge which have semiconducting properties and have conductivities in between metals and non metals.
