The classification and naming of organisms is an ordered system that is intended to indicate natural and evolutionary relationships.

Explanation:

It is important because the classification of organisms show the relationship between the organism and its contemporaries. It also shows evolutionary relationships between the organism and its ancestors. Organisms grouped in similar ranks show similarities amongst its members.

Common names of organisms may vary depending on where in the world they are found. Assigning scientific names through the process of classification makes it easier for scientists to identify it.

It also provides basic understanding about the components of biodiversity which is necessary for effective decision making about conservation and sustainable use.

Taxonomy is that branch of biology that deals with the conception, naming, and classification of groups of organisms. Carl Linnaeus is regarded as the Father of Taxonomy. He developed the Linnaean Classification for categorising of organisms and binomial nomenclature for naming organisms.
