Well, here's one solution.....

Explanation:

Obtain a sample of pure trans isomer, and run its IR spectrum.

Obtain a sample of pure cis isomer, and run its IR spectrum.

And these spectra would be very similar, but there might be few differences you could examine with respect to the IR spectrum of your sample. IR spectroscopy offers a very poor discriminant of molecular structure.
