The body is not preforming cellular respiration as much as normal.

Explanation:

During starving and fasting, one is not eating food so little or no new glucose is being introduced to the body. Cellular respiration needs glucose molecules to start the first step: glycolysis. If the first step cannot be completed, then acetyl coA is not used in the Krebs Cycle leading to the accumulation of acetyl coA in the cell.
