Dalton's experiments showed that atoms combine to form compounds with fixed ratios.

Explanation:

For example when magnesium burns it combines with oxygen, a 100 gram sample of magnesium combines with exactly 6.58 grams of oxygen to form 106.58 grams of magnesium oxide. This ratio is constant. This provided additional evidence for the existence of atoms.
