Explanation:

In 1465 the Songhai empire began to conquer and destroy the Empire of Mali. Songhai eventually conquered Timthbuktu which had become a city reserved for Muslims like Mecca and a center of culture and learning.

Isalm had become a unifying force in West Africa under the Mali Empire. The Songhai Empire worked to reestablish the influence of traditional African religions in West Africa. The transition from the Mali to Songhai Empires political instability in West Africa

Then in 1591 an Arabic Islamic army from Morocco invaded and conquered Songhai. Using rifles and taking advantage to the internal strife in the Songhai Empire the Arabs quickly conquered Songhai. The destruction of the Songhai Empire created political instability.

The Arabs set up an Empire of their own in Western Africa but failed to gain the support of the local people. Military might, repression, and institution of strict Islamic religion were not enough to control the region of West Africa. The area experience political instability through out the period that the Moroccans attempted to rule West Africa.

Both the rise and the fall of the Songhai Empire created political instability in the region of West Africa.
