Rate laws are the result, in part, of the reaction mechanisms, not the other way around. The "mechanism" is natural chemistry. The "rate law" is an empirical observation trying to gain some understanding of the chemistry.

Explanation:

In organic chemistry, acid hydrolysis is a process in which a protic acid is used to catalyze the cleavage of a chemical bond via a nucleophilic substitution reaction, with the addition of the elements of water.

HOW it proceeds will determine the empirical rate law for the reaction. The rate law is a function of the reaction mechanism, not the other way around.
