We burn some wastes. There are hundreds of waste incineration plants in the USA. Some hazardous wastes are also incinerated.

Some wastes landfilled. Landfills are places to store wastes for a long time. Such facilities generate carbon dioxide and methane gas. Because decomposition of waste is anaerobic.
