On February 11, 2016, the LIGO(Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory ) and VIRGO Scientific Collaboration announced that they have made the first observation and detection of gravitational waves from two colliding black holes. The observation itself was made on September 14 of 2015, using a 4km long LIGO device.
