Explanation:

In return for financial support for the war from Jewish banks the British government made the above commitment. Unfortunately they made similar commitments to the Palestinian Arabs in return for support in defeating the Turks. This double and contradictory commitment sowed the seeds of much of the subsequent conflict which took place .
