Recall,

#nu = (1/(2pic))(f/(m_"red"))^(1/2)#,

where

#m_"red" = (m_1m_2)/(m_1+m_2)#

I assume you're referring to #f#, the force constant. This represents the bond strength in the bond that is vibrating as a function of infrared irradiation.

This mathematically tells us that strong bonds will vibrate at higher frequencies.

Empirically, we see that triple bonds have higher frequencies than double bonds, and so forth.
