I would recommend on this problem elimination over substitution and graphing. So times the first equation by $- 1$ and that would equal

So

$- 3 y - x = - 38$
$3 y + 2 x = 52$

Add the two equations. The $y$'s would cancel out to give you

$x = 14$

So now plug $14$ into either equation. I'm going to use the second one.

$3 y + 2 \left(14\right) = 52$

$3 y + 28 = 52$

$3 y = 24$

$y = \frac{24}{3}$

$y = 8$
