Metaphors sometimes create an illustration for people to follow and relate to rather than regular, meaningless speech.

Explanation:

There are many ways to answer this question, by the way.

Metaphors are synonymous with analogies. An analogy is a comparison between two or more things that is typically used to explain something. Metaphors can reveal hidden clues or ideas of what the speaker is trying to convey that he normally wouldn't be able to in a literal conversation.

Example:

"Love is a vast ocean and I am drowning in it."

This is a concise way to explain that you're in love and you're going to stay in love for a long time. You are so saturated with love that you can feel it in every bone of your body. The ocean embodies your emotion.

This is also better than trying to explain your love in a literal sense that can sound like a run-on sentence and sound sort of like this:

"I am really in love and I would do anything for my love and I feel like I am always surrounded by love and I am happy to be in love."

It sounds a lot better when the emotion is used as a metaphor like that, isn't it?
