Macbeth has secret desires to be king, but when he falters when considering Duncan's murder it is his wife who has the steel and determination to se the act through. She desires power for herself and her husband. However in so doing her fate is inevitable. In disturbing the natural order of things she is condemned to descend into madness and death.
