Question #230b9

1 Answer

You can find the midpoint of two points by adding their respective abscissas (x coordinate) and ordinates (y coordinate) and dividing these values by 2.

To find the x coordinate of the midpoint, add the first x coordinate (which we will call #x_1#) and the second x coordinate (#x_2#) together; then divide it by 2.

#x_1# is 4 and #x_2# is -6. The x coordinate or the abscissa of the midpoint is thus:

#(4+(-6))/2=-1#

We can do the same with y or the ordinate:

#y_1# is 3 and #y_2# is 6, so

#(3+6)/2=4.5#

So the midpoint of #(4, 3)# and #(-6, 6)# is #(-1, 4.5)#.
