Explanation:

Mao developed Maoism to adapt Marxism to China. This was because china was still largely an agrarian society whilst the Bolshevik Revolution had taken place amongst the industrial proletariat of the Soviet Union.

Mao's armies were peasant armies and he emphasised to his forces the need to treat the peasants with respect and dignity.

This was in sharp contrast to the treatment they experienced from local warlords and the corruption of the Nationalist government as well as the extreme brutality of the occupying Japanese.
