Explanation:

Only autotrophs can convert solar energy to chemical energy and prepare their own food.
Heterotrophs are directly or indirectly dependent on the autotrophs for their food because they can't prepare food on their own.
Plants(autrophs) also take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen which is very important for heterotrophic survival.
