I guess we have read the same article which says that drinking water when you wake up in the morning causes lower stroke chance ( ~ by 35% ) and has a lot of benefits ( it didnt mention them at all ).
My guess will be the following:

• It dilutes the hidrochloric acid from the stomach so you'll be less likely to have a burning stomach during the day.

• The water will be absorbed pretty fast, helping you to wake up by increasing blood pressure.

• It contributes to most of the metabolic processes in the body, so drinking it in the early morning will keep your body well-functioning during the day.

• There may be some rests of food in the stomach or intestines which can be removed (or absorbed if were talking about left-over nutriments) easily by drinking water.
