Imprinting in the animal world is when the young one of an animal recognises the parent and it helps them to understand their identity as one of that species.

Explanation:

Imprinting helps the young animal/bird to learn the appropriate behaviour of its species, recognise the adult animal/bird that will provide safety and that they never get separated from their parent. It is usually observed in birds like geese and ducks in following their parents.

It is nearly impossible for a young bird that imprints to change that and identify with a different species.
