A balloon has a volume of 2.50 L indoors at 22 degree C. If the balloon is taken outdoors on a cold day when the air temperature is -15 degree C (5 degree F), what will its volume be in liters? Assume constant air pressure within the balloon.

The new volume will be 2.17 L.

You will need to use Charles' law to solve this problem. The equation is #(V_1)/(T_1) = (V_2)/(T_2)#

#V_1 = 2.50L#
#T_1 = 22"^(o)C + 273 = 295 K# (temp must be in Kelvins)
#T_2 = -15"^(o)C + 273 = 258 K#
#V_2 = ?#

#V_2 = (V_1T_2)/(T_1) = (2.50 L · 258 K)/(295 K) = 2.17 L#
