So when you have #C(x)# that structure is applied to #x# giving:

So when you have #C(s)# that structure is applied to #s# giving:

So for #color(red)(10)# miles

#color(green)(C(10)=0.8(color(red)(10))+2#

#color(green)(C(10)=8+2 -> 10)#

Note that #C(x)# only applies to the structure. I tend to state:

Set #y=C(x)# giving:

#y=0.8x+2#

That way you are linking the structure to the value of the answer of #y#
