Describe how various scientists have contributed to our current understanding how life began?
1 Answer
SO many
Explanation:
Theres a lot of scientist that have contributed to that, but just to get you started, you can look at the work of Francisco Redi and Luis Pastuer who worked to disprove spontaneous generation. Redi showed through samples of meat, one which that was left open, and found that maggots appeared a few days later, and another sample which he covered with gauze that no maggots appeared. He proved that the maggots came from somewhere other than the meat, but he couldn't determine how the meat still putrefied without contact from flies. Pasteur disproved spontaneous generation by using a swan neck flask, which was not directly open to the air, he had broth on the other end of the flask, and when the swam neck which blocked air flow was connected, it did not turn cloudy and spoil, however, when the swan neck was removed, it spoiled, proving that particulates are carried through the air and are small enough to be undetected and even pass through Gauze. Hope this gets you started!
