With not much to do, and America having a drinking problem, there was a lot of crime.
During this time period, people went to secret bars, and drank illegally. People were out of work and would do whatever it took to get some money. Many times, stealing to get some food on the table.
African Americans were having a hard time as well, dealing with racial discrimination.
