Do the ionic bonds in compounds affect freezing their point?
Ionics compounds have crystal structure. Thus the cations and anions are strongly attached to one another by inter ionic attractive forces. So to break crystal structure more energy is needed. Thus melting point of ionic compound is very high.
Ionic compounds are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction, due to the opposing charges of the ions involved because opposite charges attract. These require a lot of energy to be overcome and due to the large amount of energy required, this gives rise to high melting and boiling points.
