Do we have a cure for super bugs....?
1 Answer
Not yet
Explanation:
We do not have an antibiotic which will kill all resistant bacteria but there are several countermeasures that will help reduce the resistant bacteria.
-
Antibiotics are no longer given for illnesses such as a sore throat and the flu as that then becomes a breeding ground for resistant bacteria.
-
Making sure that you take the antibiotic for the full length of the course. Super bugs happen when people stop taking the antibiotic because they feel better. The antibiotic kills the majority of pathogens but some may survive, mutate and divide again. That is when a resistant pathogen arises. The same antibiotic will no longer work, but since we have an array of different antibiotics, another one will work.
-
We may have an array of antibiotics but soon the bacteria will become resistant to the other antibiotics and there will no longer be a way to kill them. This means that research for new antibiotics is underway. Scientists are trying to find new antibiotics from the environment that will be safe for humans.
-
Antibiotics are no longer given over the counter, they have to be prescribed by your doctor.
