Yes there are a number of similarities.
Explanation:
Both Vietnam in 1945 and colonial America were territories occupied by a colonial power, France and Great Britain respectively.
In both instances the native population wanted independence from these colonial powers.
Thirdly they both had to fight wars to achieve independence and both were successful.
