The associative property states:

#(A+B)+C=A+(B+C)#

The commutative property states:

#A+B=B+A#

The example is not very well thought out.

#5+11+8=5+8+11#

Shows the commutative property, but the parenthesis is not needed for this, unless it was just put there to highlight the switching of the numbers.

The commutative property for addition just means the sum is the same no matter what order you add the terms.

This property is also true for multiplication of real numbers.

#AB=BA#
