Does the fact that ethanol has a lower polarity than water limit what dissolves into it as a solvent?

Ethanol, and methanol, are water-like solvents . They are in effect half a water molecule... That being said, the alcohols are not good solvents for ions, and addition of ethanol to aqueous solutions of most salts will precipitate the salt...
