Explain why atoms have different isotopes. In other words, how is it that helium can exist in three different forms?

This is because of the variation of number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom.

Explanation:

The original atom of helium has 4 as its mass number( 2 protons and 2 neutrons) but in the case of Helium-2, it has 2 protons and no neutrons.
