The Democratic Party and The Whig Party

Explanation:

The Democratic Party started up with the supporters of Andrew Jackson, and even continues to this day. The Whig party was primarily formed to oppose the Democratic Party. William Henry Harrison was elected the first Whig President in 1840. Due to his short tenure though, John Tyler, who was less grounded in the Whig position, took over.

Increasing tensions between the states, and issues within the party would lead to its dissolution. Their position opposite the democrat party would be taken over by the Republican Party in the 1860's.
